A PRAYER TO HEAR GOD'S VOICE

Woman with Bible

Father, your voice is powerful and full of majesty, like the sound of many waters. At times when you speak, it thunders and yet often it seems you whisper. You are speaking all the time–now one way, now another–though we frequently aren’t aware. Help us to perceive your voice.

You delight in speaking to your children and we deeply desire to hear your voice. We call on your name, answer us, and show us great and hidden things we have not known.

Jesus, your words are Spirit, and they are life, they bring cleansing, and peace to our hearts. If anyone hears your voice and opens the door, you will come in and eat with that person. We want to see with our eyes and hear with our ears, we want to understand with our hearts and turn, so that you might heal us. We open the door to our hearts that you might come in and feast with us.

You share your secrets with your friends- the ones who are with you and doing your works. Your sheep hear your voice, and you know them, and they follow you. We want to follow you with all our hearts and with every thought, word, and action. Everyone who hears your words, and does them, is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. We want to walk in friendship with you and we want to listen.

Lord, you are our rock, and we are hidden in your side and covered by your blood. We have set our faces toward you with complete resolve, postured here to listen. We will watch to see what you will say. The words you reveal, we will treasure and declare, that those who hear may be encouraged and comforted, and run this race of faith with endurance and courage. Your word shall not return void, but shall accomplish what you please, and prosper in the thing for which you sent it.

Holy Spirit, we want to hear what you are saying to the church. Speak the words you hear and receive from the Father and make them know to us. Guide us into all truth, teach us everything you need us to know, remind us of all things that Jesus said, and show us things to come.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.
