RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS

Jesus is the kindest, most extraordinary, selfless, and wonderful person you’ll ever meet.


The bible tells us that in the beginning (of all things), Jesus was with God His Father, and He was God (See John 1:1-2). Jesus then became flesh (human) and lived amongst us.

 

While Mary was still a virgin, Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born in Bethlehem. Jesus started out His earthly life as a baby! What kind of god does that! But he was no ordinary god. He was fully God and fully human. The Father had sent, his one and only Son to mankind to dwell with us.

 

Jesus lived a perfect life– free of offense, abuse, hatred, dishonesty, depravity, or sin. Instead, He gave Himself to serve others, to heal and love them.


After a life of labor and three years of ministry, He humbled Himself and offered Himself to God as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He suffered death on a cross, the Roman instrument of torture and a sure death sentence. With His shed blood, Jesus obtained for us the forgiveness of sins and everlasting life with access and reconciliation to Father God. After Jesus died, He was buried in a tomb. On the third day after He was crucified, He rose from the grave. Jesus conquered death. He was resurrected and alive from the grave, he ascended to the right hand of the Father.

 

How can we know a God that is invisible? How can we have a relationship and embrace the infinite and eternal. Well, Jesus is amazing, He is the ultimate revelation of God. He shared with us exactly the nature and character of the Father. He showed us the invisible God. Jesus Himself said, “If you’ve seen me, you’ve seen My Father.” Jesus is the exact representation of God the Father. We can know God’s nature and character by hearing his word but especially by looking directly at Jesus.

 

Eugene Peterson in the Message paraphrase a passage from Ephesians 5. The words encourage us, “Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with Him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn't love to get something from us but to give everything of Himself to us.” How many of us have experienced a love like this before?

 

God really loves people, all people. Now He doesn’t just love people, He is love. The Apostle John tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8). In other words, God’s very essence, His fabric, is love. It would be contrary to His nature to not love. He can’t do that!

 

Just as the natural realm has physical laws like gravity, the spiritual realm has laws too. The spiritual law says that the consequence of our sin is death. Here’s the good news, Jesus came that we didn’t have to die. God loved you so much that He gave Jesus, His only Son, to die in your place. He said that whoever believes in Him will not die but have everlasting life. Jesus died out of His love for you. He died to purchase you with His blood as His own special treasure.

 

God really loves you. He created you. Yes, you have your mother and father’s DNA. But God tells us that you were formed and fashioned while you were still in your mother’s womb. He put all your pieces together. You were fearfully and wonderfully made. You are perfect to Him. He created you for love, to love and be loved. He created you for relationship, to know Him and be known by Him. His arms are always wide open to you. He is inviting you into relationship with Him.

 

How can you know Him? The Apostle John said this, “As many as receive Him, to them He gives the right to become the children of God, to those who believe in His name.”  Jesus is received through trusting in Him and acknowledging He is who is said He was.

 

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”


And the Apostle Peter said, “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!”

 

Good works or doing the right thing are not required nor are they accepted as the basis for this salvation. This gift of salvation is a gift from God. We cannot obtain or purchase this gift; we can only receive this gift by faith. Through God’s own unmerited favor and enabling power we are saved through believing and trusting in Jesus.

Relationship with Jesus, eternal life and knowing Him as your Father can all start with believing in Him and calling out to Him. It can start with a simple prayer,

 

"Jesus, You are here and You’re alive. You invite anyone who is thirsty to call upon Your name. I need You and I want to trust and follow You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I receive Your forgiveness. Cleanse me and rescue me from darkness and bring me into Your Kingdom of light, life, and love. Come into my life and make Your home in me. I receive the gift of relationship and reconciliation with You. I want to know You and hear Your voice and be a part of Your family. Write Your name on my heart and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Thank You Jesus for receiving me, loving me, forgiving my sins, and giving me eternal life. Amen."
